*Biography:

Christy Cook's musical journey has encompassed a wide range of styles, culminating in the composition of her original music. Classically trained on piano, organ, and flute, she began performing publicly at the age of five. After receiving a degree in music, she pursued an interest in world music, such as Indonesian gamelan music and African drumming. She also received a Master's degree in early childhood development and Montessori certification, spending several years teaching preschool and elementary levels.

Christy discovered the hammer dulcimer in 1979, and it quickly became her focus. The harp-like sound of the dulcimer so intrigued her and her husband, Fred, that they soon acquired a bass dulcimer and two soprano dulcimers. This duo performed Celtic music for four years throughout upstate New York. Their first recordings, "Jakey's Amble" and "Molly's Welcome" received critical acclaim.

Christy and Fred continued performing in concerts, festivals, and on radio and television after they moved to western Canada in 1982. They began touring and teaching dulcimer workshops from one end of North America to the other. Their1985 album, "Just a Minuet", featuring Elizabethan, Celtic and original music, received enthusiastic reviews and radio airplay. Highlights of the following years included concerts at Expo 86 in Vancouver, a tour of Romania with a Romanian dance troupe, the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, and several US tours and festivals. "Melange", their 1993 album, added eastern European music into the mix of styles.

Christy also established herself as a children's entertainer, singing with the dulcimer at children's festivals and schools. Her children's album, "The Creature in the Classroom: Songs and Poems for Children" was released in 1988. Her children's compositions were used to accompany a storyteller and later for Storybook Theatre in Calgary.

Since she began daily meditation in 1986, Christy has come to acknowledge the healing power of both music and meditation, which has helped her cope with her own chronic illness. Though she will always enjoy playing a wide range of musical styles on the dulcimer, Christy's focus is now on writing dulcimer music which aids in relaxation, meditation and healing. Her latest CD, "Trillium Rising" ,  is a reflection of this goal. She provides live music forgroup meditations and collaborates with others in presenting workshops andretreats. Christy also speaks to groups on topics such as "The Healing Power of Music" and "Music and Your Child".
